Kashan Rugs

Kashan rugs sometimes referred to as Keshan rugs can be found at Aviram Aziz, Inc, a world famous dealer and seller of the finest Antique and Decorative Rugs.  These fine and exquisite hand woven rugs are named for the city where they originated from-Keshan.  This small city located in central Iran on the edge of the Kavir desert was sometimes called an oasis city for it was a common resting place for those traveling on the ancient Silk Road.  Although the city was relativity small in population, textiles and pottery were well known to the Western world because of its prime location on the Silk Road.
Kashan rugs are typically made with wool or cotton pile.  The finer rugs are made with silk.  Occasionally, you can find these classic beauties made of special wool referred to as kurk wool from the neck of lamb.  These rugs, like many ancient Persian rugs, typically contain a large central medallion with a surrounding geometric pattern.  These rigs may have a dense pattern with intricately designed motifs including florals, arabesques, palmettos, rosettes and leaves.  The dominant or background colors vary and include blues, reds, light greens and beiges. Kashan rugs may come in any size, however, the most common is a mid-size rug.  Like their other Persian rug counterparts, these hand woven masterpieces are revered for their high density knot counts using a Persian knot and their unique intricate design.  Some of these patterns and styles have been passed down from generation to generation from before the 17th century,
